Is It Important That My Daughter Feel Beautiful?

We’ve all heard it before.

A girl is to be seen and not heard. Pretty, but not smart. Cute, but not funny. Etc, etc. and the list goes on and on.

When presented with a seeming dichotomy, a (false) either-or, many of us chose to kick beauty to the curb and value other aspects of ourselves. Rock on, first, second and third-wave feminism!

But is that all there is?

Can’t we be beautiful and wise and funny and brilliant and brave and kind…  and, and, and…? With no limit to the hugeness and authenticity of what we are? As women, as girls, as humans? Welcome to fourth-wave feminism!

Today, on the blog we’re talking beauty compliments, and how to value the wholeness of your daughter, and invite her to do the same — in a world gone mad with a very narrow definition of “beauty” — especially in teen girl world (hello social media).
